Barry O's coming to Asheville again! Let's buy him...
You know what that means- they’re gonna buy a home and move to Asheville and one day I’ll be shopping at Minx when Michelle will come in to help Malia pick out a dress to wear on a date. And Michelle and I will exchange the hello of two people whose very different lives keep bringing them to the same place at the same time. Actually, I do have it from two reliable sources that the...

Oy vey, enough Lady Gaga!
I listen exclusively to pop radio on my commute because apparently I have the musical taste of a 12 year old, but whatever, I will always love Britney. Lady Gaga though? Enough! Enough pandering, enough theatrics, enough! I listen to pop stations out of North Carolina, South Carolina and sometimes even Georgia and Lady Gaga markets her country song “You and I” (I don’t include...

Today I saw Midnight in Paris and it contained...
It’s basically about a guy who gets to go back in time and hang out with famous artists and writers who are presented as caricatures of themselves. For example, when the protagonist meets Dali, Dali says that he will paint him. Dali describes the painting he will make and it will have the protagonist’s sad eyes and his lips melting over the desert and he will have one tear and in that...

A very creative friend of mine is in the midst of a very witty, clever and fun painting project. Just thinking about her paintings put a grin on my face.

Hmmmm....
I think I’m going to have to tell Aaron to go out with his friends one of these nights, pick up a bottle of red wine and have a good old fashioned Almodovar movie night. I think I’ll  revisit Broken Embraces.

I can't sleep
That means that I’m up all night with my thoughts. Do some thoughts and thought patterns stick around out of habit, or are we really so affected by the people who have hurt us that we’ll always have to wonder why?

If I die young
please don’t bury me in satin. If it’s summer, make it chiffon but definitely taffeta in winter. I hate that song, the fact that it’s morbid is only slightly off, the Christian verse about going to heaven in white because she’s a virgin is so abstinence fan base and I’m used to that kind of pandering. It’s the damn satin that I hate. Satin is a sin.

Wine or a bike ride?
I don’t have a bike lock or a milk crate on my bike so I’d have to walk and get wine, instead of biking. I think I want a grown up drink more than I want to be healthy. Chilled white wine on a humid night sounds better than a sweaty bike ride right now.

I am now an uptight grownup
This summer short shorts have been causing a visceral reaction in me. I can’t remember ever in my life having been grossed out by their mere presence, but now it happens  every time I see them. Maybe it’s because short shorts wearers also tend to be the kind of women who have always intimidated me and made me feel like I don’t know how to be female? You know, the ones who have...

Sometimes things aren't how they seem.
Or weren’t how they seemed. Alls I know is that Jesus will never be on my necklace. The Virgin (of Guadalupe only) may be on a shirt of mine and decorating the wall of some queer folk I know, but that’s as far I can go.

South Asheville is the seventh circle of Hell.
Or however that saying goes. I had to go to Arden yesterday and two shitty things happened. The first is that I got sunburned on my face and back just walking from the car to Target, from Target to Office Depot and then back to the car. The second thing happened in the Office Depot. My sweetie and I were in there running wedding errands. We were trying to find a pretty folder to put rehearsal...

I've been feeding people opium leaves!
So when this started growing in my yard (minus the flower of course), I thought it was lettuce and I started eating it and putting it in salads for friends and family. Then it started to grow giant flower buds. That was my first clue that this wasn’t actually lettuce. On an unrelated search for poppy pictures I discovered that my ‘lettuce’ was actually a poppy, and not just...

My sweetie's middle name is lament →
Apparently it is an untranslatable concept that has to do with a national feeling of oppression, helplessness and unavenged injustice. It is such a part of the Korean identity that it can be found being expressed in every part of Korean life. It can even have physical symptoms that can lead to death! Heavy stuff. Also, it’s a common Korean las name and it was his mother’s maiden name.

Here are some things that have happened to me...
A thirteen year old asked me if the classroom was haunted and then she asked if the regular teacher was dead. She then told me to let her know if I decide to turn the body over.  I told a six year old that she needed to stop crying because her issue wasn’t worth crying over. She was crying because a classmate wasn’t standing in the right place in line. I never thought I would be...
