I’ve been feeding people opium leaves!
So when this started growing in my yard (minus the flower of course), I thought it was lettuce and I started eating it and putting it in salads for friends and family.
Then it started to grow giant flower buds. That was my first clue that this wasn’t actually lettuce. On an unrelated search for poppy pictures I discovered that my ‘lettuce’ was actually a poppy, and not just any poppy, but opium poppy.
